I’ve Got Your Back!
You know how the saying goes- “If life hands you lemons, squeeze the heck out of them!”
My family has been handed some lemons lately. And to be honest with you guys, I’ve just been kind of hanging on to them. Collecting them. Letting them pile up so I can look at the mountain of citrus and say, “See, life’s hard. This is just how it’s going to be and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
I’ve been guilty of just moving through the day from the chiro shop to the gym and doing work. It’s no secret that my passion is coaching. I love all aspects of it. I love seeing you guys and gals working hard and succeeding. Taking over Biles Family Chiropractic has been a bit more difficult for me. I’m not the pediatric chiropractor that my beautiful wife is
and much of the practice was geared around family care. It’s not that I can’t handle adjusting kids and families, it’s that I just enjoy working more closely with athletes. I enjoy providing care for my athletes at CFW (not that I have any favorites).
So, I’m making some changes to BFC. We’re still going to provide great family chiropractic care. We’re still going to help with low back pain, neck pain, headaches, acid reflux, etc…
And in addition to the above, I’m going to broaden my work with athletes. I will provide more extensive work in myofascial release and kinesio taping to help speed recovery time, improve performance and help athletes of any age and any sport quickly get back to what they love doing.
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a form of therapy that involves pressure with or without movement to release tight or spastic muscles. The pressure can be applied with the hand or other tools such as a foam roller or other object. The goal of MFR is to restore motion and eliminate pain.
I’ll be utilizing a lot of the stretching and mobility protocols popularized by Kelly Starrett of MobilityWOD.
Kinesio Tape(KT) is the use of specialized, therapeutic tape that has a bit of stretch to it. Because of it’s ability to stretch, the tape can be placed to support muscle and joint function without binding or hindering joint motion.
I’ve used kinesio tape quite a bit for many sprain/strain injuries that athletes tend to suffer and HAVE FOUND THE BENEFITS TO BE INCREDIBLE!

What does it do?
Rocktape is a kinesiology tape and is fantastic for treating common sports injuries like shin splints, plantars and runner’s knee. Rocktape also can increase endurance by promoting blood flow during an athletic event. Rock Sauce is the newest product and is a topical pain reliever. Rock Sauce is one of the most powerful pain relieving lotions you can buy over-the-counter. When Rock Sauce and Rocktape are combined, the athlete is completely revitalized.
How does it work?
When applied properly, ROCKTAPE lifts the skin away from the muscle, which promotes blood flow. Faster blood flow means more oxygen and more lymph drainage, which helps remove Lactic Acid.

Goal Setting 2012
Hello, Pain…
I’ve met you before many times. You always seem to show up around the same time in WODs.
I don’t really have time for you so excuse me if I ignore you.
I need to get one more rep. One more round. Another lift.
Maybe I’ll chat with you later in my Mobility WOD.
I Failed
I failed today. Four times. Four times out of seven. Missed the mark. Didn’t hit my goal.
Three of those failures put me on my backside. Literally.
That’s just what happens when you approach the edge of your ability and try to move past it.
I’m proud of my failures today. Because next time, I won’t. Believe that.
Close Your Eyes
Do you feel that? The connection, the muscle, the sinew as your body moves through space. Do you know where you are? Even when your feet leave the ground?
Feel it. Learn it. Lean on it. Trust it. Learn how your body moves. Don’t push, strive, or try to control. Move.
Move. Move like you’re in your own skin. Not fighting against it. Move like a child at play.

Pay The Toll
The new box is is just freakin’ awesome! I love pretty much everything about it. Pretty much.
The one issue is easy access to running. We don’t has it. We have stairs. So to run you’ve got to make a round trip stair climb. I’ve been a little discouraged about this from the start. But no more. I’m changing my mind. We can’t change the fact that we’re in a basement. So if we’re gonna run, we’ve got to pay the toll.
It only makes sense. If CrossFit is the express lane to World Class Fitness, then you’ve got to pay a price. For us at CFW, that includes stair climbs plus the run. And you know what? It’s only going to make us fitter!
Fly
Sometimes you just gotta take a leap. Is it scary? Yes. But make it or not, I’ll bet you’ll have something more interesting to talk about tomorrow!
